Ultimate Edge Kit 1. Place the sharpening stone on your finger tips with the PDT Gleason Guide on top, rest your thumb gently on the guide to hold it in place. Right-handed individuals tend to find it easier to sharpen with the stone and guide in their left hand. To maintain sharp edges use the fine PDT Diamond Head™ sharpening stone. To reshape or recreate the bevel use the PDT Transformation™ sharpening stone. 2. Select either the Gracey or Universal/Sickle side depending upon the instrument you have chosen. Lace the back of the blade against the junction where the inside of the guide and the stone meet called the “stop”. 3. Maintain the “stop” position while dropping the terminal shank down to rest on the angled bar of the guide. This is called the “rest” position. 4. While maintaining the “rest” position move the instrument back and forth in a pendulum, (gliding) motion along the guide. 5. To shape the “Toe” of the instrument pivot the heel on the beveled end on the Gleason Guide. Rotate the handle of the instrument so that the curvature of the toe moves in an arc against the stone. 6. The Ultimate Edge Kit also comes with a PingRing. If your instrument has been correctly sharpened its cutting edge should “ping” or grab the ring when it is sharp.
